Am I Here?

Walking up and down

The sidewalks of Chicago

With my eyes wide open

Looking straight and down

In front of me

Thinking to my self

Where is the compassion, the empathy?

Chicagoans don’t show it for the ones

Who are Homeless

Standing at the corner

Waiting for the light to turn and there

I looked over my shoulder

I see a homeless woman

Filled with tears

Looking at the ones

Waiting to cross, to the other side

She is rattling her cup

I could see her soul

Crying, reaching out for help

Tears running down her face

All I could do is to cry with her

And let her know, I care

Hundreds of souls walking past her

Not one stopped to acknowledge

That she is reaching out for help
